Brazillian football

Football, or Soccer, is a game much loved by the young and old. This game is played by men and women in all parts of the world. The World Cup is the ultimate competition for countries to win football honours. The World Cup is held once every four years.

The people of Brazil seem to be the first to form a football association. This was The Confegaraco Brasileira De Futebol which was formed in 1914. From that year onwards, football has become a much talked about game in Brazil. In fact, Brazilians are football-crazy.

In 1930, Brazil got into the first round of World Cup Football. Football was talked about in the shops, streets, meetings and almost everywhere. In the year 1958, Brazil won the World Cup for the first time by beating Sweden 5 - 2. It was in this year that the world and the Brazilians came to know and to love the greatest footballer of all time — Pele. Pele's style, action and even the way he talked became the topic of discussion for Brazilians and the world at large.

When Brazil won the World Cup again in 1962, more names like Gerricha and Rivelino came to be known. Brazil went on to win the World Cup for the third time in 1970 and for the fourth time in 1994. Such is the power of Brazilian football.
