A poisonous plant of India

Malaysia has a hot and wet climate. Malaysians say they are very lucky to get rain all year round. The rain keeps the forests green.

Another country with a hot and wet climate is India. It is a country which depends much on agriculture. Water is of utmost importance. However, sometimes rain does not come and the land becomes very dry and filled with cracks. The plants and crops wither and die. The weather becomes hot and often almost too hot to bear.

However, during this dry period, a green plant is seen to grow despite the lack of water. The leaf, stem and branches are all green. The plant stands out as being most fresh and healthy. All other plants would have turned brown or yellow under the heat.

This green plant looks like good food to the goats. They chew on the leaves, not knowing that the green plant is actually poisonous. The goats get ill after eating this plant and often they die.

Every Indian farmer knows about this plant. Whenever there is a drought, they stand to lose hundreds of goats to this deadly plant.
